| VALUE ADDED TAX -- |
Retailers located in European Union (EU) member countries typically
include a Value Added Tax, or VAT, in the price of merchandise they sell. Great Britain's
VAT, for example, is 17.5%. A bra costing £29.79 plus £5.21 VAT is
priced £35. Orders shipped to the Americas and other countries outside of the
EU are exempted VAT. In simple terms, if you live in the United States, Canada, Mexico,
South America, or any other non-EU member country, and you purchase a bra on-line from a
retailer in Great Britain, you may be overpaying if you are charged the advertised price plus
international shipping. Some retailers' web site software are not programmed to identify
eligible VAT exempt customers and cannot automatically deduct VAT. Instead, to remain
competitive they provide free international shipping. Other retailers don't charge the tax,
but increase their price to the advertised amount as a means to cover the additional cost of
international trade.
Unless otherwise stated, prices advertised by British companies include VAT. To calculate
the VAT exempt price, divide the advertised price by 1.175. For example, £35 / 1.175 = £29.79.
To estimate the VAT exempt price in $ USD, multiply by 1.40. For example £29.79 * 1.40
= $41.70 USD. Refer to the current currency exchange rate for an exact price. *Some credit card
companies charge a fee for currency exchange.
We do not differentiate in our Retailers Guide between companies who exempt VAT or provide
free international shipping or who increase their price to the advertised amount. Be an informed
customer -- check the terms and conditions published on the retailer's web site or email them for
information about their VAT policy.
For your convenience our Retailers Guide identifies companies foreign to the United States by their
nations' flags.
If your purchases are eligible for VAT exemption, please be sure to note this on your order and check the
amount charged on your order confirmation or invoice to ensure you are properly charged.
In advance of importing anything, check with your local post office to learn about any customs duties
which may apply.
